Pattern Breakers is a good framework to think through the recent changes in startups with.
It boils down to this:
1. Inflections: External shifts such as new technologies. There needs to be a change in customer behavior.
2. Insights: how to harness this inflection. This is the belief of the future that is core to the company.
It's very "Zero to One" if you think about it.
The current inflection is this:
First order: llms are very powerful at coding and easy to use
Second order: Software becomes disposable. People will just code their own internal tools
Third order: Infrastructure matters a lot (assuming a future where people will be building their own customer support agents and etc.)
To get the insight, we need to follow this structure:
Because X changed, a specific group will now do Y, but they will repeatedly fail because of Z. Therefore, we build W.
Part of me is thinking a lot about the individual voice-AI builders within the home services vertical. What could they possibly fail on with something like inbound lead capture or customer support?
